Privacy Policy
HummingRead is a document and ebook speed reader. It does not require an account and does not include advertising, analytics, tracking, or cloud synchronization.
Data on your device
Imported files, pasted text, library metadata, bookmarks, reading progress, and settings are processed locally and remain in the app’s private storage. The developer does not receive this information.
Network use
The native iOS app has no article importer or content-service endpoint and its full reading workflow works offline. On the web/PWA only, choosing “Import article” sends the submitted URL to the HummingRead article service, which downloads the public page, extracts readable text, and returns it to your browser. The URL and page are processed in memory and are not saved in a server library or analytics database. Article-endpoint access logging is disabled. A bounded in-memory abuse-prevention bucket processes the requesting IP only to apply a rate limit and physically removes that key no later than ten minutes after the bucket starts. Repeated requests do not extend that deadline. The source website receives a request from the HummingRead service and applies its own policy.
Chrome extension
The optional Chrome extension reads selected, locally extracted, or explicitly pasted text in its own standalone RSVP reader. That text and reading progress stay in Chrome extension storage and are not sent to the article service. The extension does not request clipboard, browsing-history, all-sites, analytics, advertising, or remote-code access. A separate, clearly labelled Quick Send action opens the configured tester website and transfers the chosen text only after an explicit click. A pending Quick Send handoff stays in Chrome’s in-memory extension session storage for no more than ten minutes and is deleted after delivery or expiry.
Export and deletion
You can export a local backup from Settings. The destination you choose controls the exported file. Settings also provides “Delete all local data”; uninstalling the app removes its private container subject to operating-system backup behavior.
Support
If you contact support, only the information you choose to send is received and it is used to investigate and answer your request. Do not send copyrighted or sensitive book content unless necessary and authorized.
